Delete your account

You can request account deletion in the app without writing to anybody.

How

1. Open Moments and go to the Profile tab.
2. Open Settings, then Privacy.
3. Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete my account.
4. Read what it removes, type your username as shown, then confirm deletion.

What happens next

Your account is deleted after 30 days. Cancel by signing in.

The app signs you out when you request deletion. You have 30 days to sign back in and cancel the request. After 30 days, we delete your account and the data listed below, including your Responses and Replies. Deletion is permanent. Copies in our database backups, which hold no video, audio or photos, go when those backups expire, up to 400 days later. Coming back means creating a new account, when account creation is available.

When the deletion has run, we send one e-mail to the address on your account to say so. It is the last message you get from us.

What is deleted

• Your account, name, username, photo, settings and device registrations, within 30 days.
• Every Response you sent, from every Thread, within 30 days — and immediately from any Once view a friend had not yet opened.
• Every Reply you wrote.
• Your Bond for every Thread, and the preset it was mapped to.
• Your scrambled contact data, any older Facebook connection and Instagram username.
• Your date of birth, or the age you gave, and your gender.
• Whether you passed the age check, and the day you took it.
• Copies in our database backups, which hold no video, audio or photos, when those backups expire, up to 400 days later.
• Your username is held for 90 days after the deletion runs, and only then released, so that nobody can arrive under the name of the friend who left.

What your friends keep

• The Prompts you chose stay in the Threads where they started a Moment, so the Moment still exists for the people who were in it. Your name is not on them; the Thread reads “left Moments” in its place.
• Their Shared Moments count with you, and every Trophy you earned together. Those celebrate the friendship and belong to them as much as to you.
• Anything they had already unlocked and watched. We cannot un-see it for them, and we do not pretend we can.

Take your data first

The download and the deletion are separate. If you want a copy, tap “Download my data” in the same place first: the archive is ready within 30 days and stays available for 7. Deleting your account ends the download with it.

If you cannot open the app

Write to the support address below from the e-mail address on your account, and we will start the deletion for you. It is the same 30-day window, cancellable the same way.
